On Monday night (19), the Indiana Hoosiers faced the Miami Hurricanes at Hard Rock Stadium and achieved a 27-21 victory, becoming College Football champions for the first time in their history.
Fernando Mendoza, candidate for the first pick in the draft, completed 16 of 27 attempted passes for 186 yards, in addition to running for a touchdown. Omar Cooper Jr. stood out with five receptions for 71 yards.
On the Miami side, Mark Fletcher Jr. shone with 17 carries for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Malachi Toney caught 10 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown.
Number 1 seed, the Hoosiers asserted their favoritism and, even playing away from home, managed to start the decision better. Nico Radicic opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 34-yard field goal.
Before halftime, Indiana extended the lead. After a long campaign, Riley Nowakowski ran a yard into the end zone and made the score 10-7.
The last period was a ‘shootout’, with an absurd sequence of scores for both sides, Indiana arrived at the end winning 27 to 21. Trying to turn things around in the last campaign, Carson Beck attempted a long throw into the attacking field, but was intercepted, declaring the Hoosiers’ historic victory.
