NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Telemundo Nashville)-Update: Fisk University says one of its student athletes was the man who died after being shot in the head on Interstate 65 North Sunday night.
“Fisk University, along with its Department of Athletics, is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Andre Bell, a sophomore business administration student and athlete,” the university said Monday afternoon.
Director of Athletics Valencia Jordan said Bell, 20, was returning to campus after volunteering at a university gymnastics competition when the shooting occurred.
“Today we have lost a leader on and off the basketball court. Andre ‘Dre’, a bright and kind young man, was unjustly taken from this world. He was a standout figure on the Fisk University men’s basketball team, but he will be remembered most for his infectious smile, caring personality, and unique ability to fill any room with warmth. His absence leaves a large void in our program, but more importantly, a deep pain in our hearts. He will be greatly missed. least. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and with the children, both in his family and in Nashville, who admired him.”
