Honor Division: History & Legacy

The Honor Division team of the Oviedo Badminton Club returns to the competition this Saturday, January 20 after the Christmas break. The Oviedo team will face San Fernando Valencia starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Fuensanta Pavilion, in the last away match of the first round.

Oviedo faces the event in third position in group A with 6 points, the same as the second placed team (Alicante) while the Valencian team occupies the last place. Despite the difference in the classification, the Oviedo coach, Alberto Zapico Antuña, expects an even match with an important weight in the development of the season. He considers that it will be a tight and decisive match for the team’s aspirations for the rest of the championship, since it also serves to close the first round.

The coach is confident that the match can fall on Oviedo’s side and allow the team to return home with points, in a match that also marks the closing of the travel calendar in this first phase. Zapico values this aspect positively, understanding that concentrating trips in the first part of the season will allow us to face the second with greater margin. The coach believes that they will arrive more rested, with fewer hours of travel, being able to prepare for games at home and taking advantage of the court factor in their pavilion.

Regarding the state of the team, the coach points out that, despite the dates, preparation has been maintained during the break, working on the match as best we could to arrive at this match in good condition.

After the match in Valencia, the Oviedo Badminton Club will play a home match for the first time this season on January 24 at the Corredoria Arena Pavilion, where it will host Astures in the second Asturian derby of the season.
