sc Heerenveen one step closer to Europe
sc Heerenveen started as top favorites in the eighth final of the KNVB Cup against RKC Waalwijk. They lived up to that expectation: they won 3-1 at home.
From the start of the first half, Heerenveen put pressure on RKC. The Waalwijkers were pushed further back into their own half. But the opening goal took quite a long time.
It was only scored in the 39th minute. Jacob Trenskow scored the opening goal after a cross from Luuk Brouwers to make the score 1-0. This also ended the first half.
The second half started just like the first with a lot of ball possession from Heerenveen. The Frisians still had a meager 1-0 lead, which created the necessary tension.
In the 64th minute, RKC came back into the match. Jesper Uneken shot and Bernt Klaverboer first grabbed the ball. But then Uneken tried again, flying and with a straight leg. That worked and he made the score 1-1.
Ten minutes later, Heerenveen came back again. Oliver Braude made the 2-1 that Heerenveen needed and the lead was again for the Frisians.
Trenskow came back again in injury time. He put the decisive 3-1 on the scoreboard in the 91st and that was it in Heerenveen.
Trainer Robin Veldman said that the KNVB Cup was the shortest path to European football and they are now one step closer to that. sc Heerenveen has advanced to the quarter-finals.
