LONDON. Viktor Gyökeres, 27, is given low marks after the meeting with Liverpool.
When coach Mikel Arteta is asked if he thinks the Swede is getting better, the answer is short:
– Yes.
Mikel Arteta believes that Viktor Gyökeres was also very right in Arsenal’s goalless match against Liverpool.
– In the end, the ball has to end up there in order to have the opportunity to do something. Especially when you face two world-class centre-backs, says the coach and adds:
– They know very well how to stop you and that is why they are the reigning champions.
In the statistics of “expected goals” both teams only scraped together to about half a goal each and the shooting statistics did not gossip about any cavalcade of chances either. Arsenal won 4–0 in the statistics of finishes against goals.
Liverpool had a long range shot hit the crossbar.
Gyökeres started for Arsenal but the Swedish striker failed to get that involved in the game. In the second half, Gyökeres was criticized by the expert Gary Neville in the Sky Sports broadcast.
– Gyökeres has been ineffective – and that’s putting it nicely. It’s been a really bad night where he hasn’t offered anything. He needs to do more, says Neville.
Low grades
Gyökeres was replaced in the 64th minute and gets the worst rating in the team by Football London – a four on a ten-point scale.
“Another ineffective effort”writes Football London.
Goal is even harder and gives the Swede a third.
“Only touched the ball eight times, the least for him in an Arsenal game”writes the site.
London Evening Standard gives Gyökeres a five in rating. The newspaper believes that he worked hard but was not in the right place.
“Another frustrating effort”the newspaper writes.
The top rivals in the Premier League are probably the happiest about the 0-0 match. Now Manchester City is “only” six points up on league leaders Arsenal.
