Go on Boy is favorite to win the Prix d’Amérique.

Now comes unclear information about the form after the horse has been ill.

– It is frustrating, says Romain Derieux Province Courses.

In May 2024, Go on Boy won the Elitloppet at Solvalla.

Then he had a long break from competition when trainer and driver Romain Derieux was suspended for three months for doping.

In December he made a comeback and on 28 December he was second behind Jushua Tree in the Prix de Bourgogne and secured his place in the Prix d’Amérique. Last year he was third in the race.

“An annoyance”

Right now, the French star horse is favorite to win the Prix d’Amérique. But there will be unclear information about the form. Go on Boy missed his intended Grand Prix, the Prix de Belgique, on 11 January due to a cough.

– The last few days have gone normally. It was the week before (the intended start in the Prix de Belgique) that he had a cough, and I couldn’t do much about it. It’s always an annoyance. My aim was to start him in the Prix de Belgique, but unfortunately we couldn’t. It’s frustrating, but that’s racing, says Romain Derieux to Province Courses.

“Hard to say…”

He himself does not know how the favorite is in the competition.

– We have done the very best we can. It’s hard to say whether you can make up for it with training, but he’s been training well in the last two weeks, says Derieux.

Go on Boy is the narrow odds favorite ahead of Josh Power and Daniel Redén’s Epic Kronos.

The Prix d’Amérique runs on Sunday at 16.20 with 450,000 euros to the winner, equivalent to 4.8 million kroner.
