Asian Winter Games in Saudi Arabia. The project seemed insane, this is not the latest news that will reassure the skeptics. The Saudi Olympic Committee and the Asian Olympic Committee (OCA) announced this Saturday, January 24, that the Games scheduled for 2029 will have to be postponed to a later date.
“The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee and the OCA have agreed on a new framework for the future organization of the Asian Winter Games, confirming the postponement of the 2029 edition to a later date which will be announced in due course,” the two bodies indicated in a joint statement.
A controversial attribution
In 2022, the awarding of the organization of the Asian Games to Saudi Arabia had already caused controversy due to environmental and human rights issues.
Saudi Arabia’s crazy project is to host the Asian Winter Games in the desert, in a futuristic city under construction, the cost of which was estimated at $500 billion.
