Girelli Backheel: Juventus Win Italian Super Cup

On Sunday 11 January, Juventus women won the Italian football Super Cup against Roma. He did it in spectacular fashion: coming back from the game and scoring the decisive goal in the 85th minute, from a back heel. It was Cristiana Girelli, a 35-year-old Italian striker and one of the strongest and most successful Italian footballers ever, who did it. Juventus, who had already won the Scudetto and Italian Cup last year, thus obtained their fifth Super Cup. For Girelli, however, it is the twelfth: no team and no player has ever won so many, demonstrating her great career.

Despite her age and despite no longer being a starter in every match, Girelli remains a good, complete and versatile attacker. Last summer he was decisive at the European Football Championships, where Italy reached the semi-final (and narrowly missed the final) also thanks to his goals. Her performances even earned her a nomination for the Ballon d’Or, football’s most prestigious individual award.
