Gicquel & Delrue: Indian Open Quarter-Final Loss

End of course for Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue at the Indian Open. After two victories, against the Danes Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund, then the Japanese Hiroki Midorikawa and Nami Matsuyama, the Breton badista and his partner from Ile-de-France, world No. 5, were soundly beaten, this Friday morning, in the quarter-finals, by the Thais Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran, who are ahead of them by one place (21-6, 21-15).

After scoring the first point of the match, the two Frenchmen never led the score again in this game, only managing to score six points in the first set. They also started the second round very poorly, conceding the first five points. Coming back to within three points of the Thais (15-12), they finally gave in by six points.

In Indonesia next week

For Gicquel and Delrue, this is the fourth defeat in six confrontations against Puavaranukroh and Paewsampran. The two Frenchmen will be on deck again next week, at the Indonesia Masters. For their entry into the competition, they will face the Danes Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje, world No. 12, whom they know very well: this will be their eighth confrontation. The French pair lead five victories to two and were notably crowned European champions, in 2024, after beating the Danes in the final.
