Giants Sign Tyler Mahle: 1-Year Deal

The Giants have agreed to a one-year deal with right-hander Tyler Mahle, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported Wednesday. The club has not confirmed the agreement.

The 2025 season was another injury-marred campaign for Mahle, who has made just 24 starts over the past three years, largely due to his recovery from Tommy John surgery. In 2025, a right shoulder strain kept him out of action for more than three months.

Still, the 31-year-old right-hander was quite effective when healthy, even with a strikeout rate (19.1%) below his pre-surgery average (24.9%). Mahle finished the year with a 2.18 ERA in 86.2 innings with the Rangers, ranking fourth among pitchers with at least 15 starts, behind only Nathan Eovaldi, Trevor Rogers and Paul Skenes.

Mahle did not receive a qualifying offer from the Rangers after last season, so he is not subject to compensation in the amateur draft nor is there a penalty for signing him.

Overall, Mahle has been an above-average starter whenever he’s been able to stay on the mound. Since the beginning of 2020, he has accumulated an ERA of 3.61 (121 ERA+) with a FIP of 3.77 in 473.1 episodes.

A California native, Mahle had his best full season in 2021 with the Reds, posting career highs in innings (180) and strikeouts (210), with a 3.75 ERA (125 ERA+). That was also his last year without visits to the disabled list.

Cincinnati traded him to the Twins before the Trade Deadline in 2022, but injuries limited him to just nine starts with Minnesota before becoming a free agent after 2023.

While continuing to rehabilitate from Tommy John surgery, Mahle signed a two-year, $22 million contract with the Rangers in December 2023. He returned to the majors in late 2024 and began 2025 as part of Texas’ rotation.
