After a fine performance, the Austrians had just beaten the Serbs with 26:25 goals – and were still eliminated from the tournament. But for national coach Alfred Gislason’s team, this result was the optimal template to bring the preliminary round of the European Championship, which had previously been less than edifying, to a good end. And his team not only accepted the neighborly help, they were able to impress across the board in the 34:32 victory.
