Germani Brescia demonstrates once again why it is up there, at the top of the table. On the hot and difficult parquet of the PalaFitLine in Cantù, the blue and whites signed a victory of enormous specific weight, prevailing 76-71 over Acqua S.Bernardo at the end of an intense challenge, fought and resolved only in the last possessions. A success that is worth the 13th seal of the season and confirmation at the top of Serie A, cohabiting with Bologna.
The match
The start is all Cantù-style: Chiozza hits repeatedly from the arc and pushes the home team up to +8, while Brescia struggles to find offensive continuity. Germani, however, does not disunite and remains in the wake thanks to the internal work of Bilan and Burnell. Cantù then tried to escape before the break, even reaching the double-digit lead at 41-29, taking advantage of quick transitions and second opportunities.
This is where coach Cotelli’s team changes face. At the turn of the long break comes a very heavy counterbreak: 0-14 scored by a more aggressive Germani, solid in defense and more fluid in attack. Della Valle orchestrates, Rivers impacts, Bilan and Burnell raise their voices under the basket. The overtaking (41-43) completely reopens the game.
The match then flows on the tracks of balance, between partials and immediate responses, up to a fiery finale. Two minutes from the siren Della Valle takes responsibility again, breaking the impasse with a triple to make it 66-67. Cantù responds with Sneed, but Brescia does not tremble: Rivers is ice-cold from the tip for the new lead, while on the other side Green and Sneed miss the chances of counter-overtaking.
In the final on the line, the blue and white captain is impeccable. Della Valle scores the free throws for +3, Green tries to keep Cantù alive, but Della Valle again re-establishes the distance. The last attempts of Bortolani and Green go out on the rim, Burnell closes the score and archives a very heavy victory for Germani.
Brescia took home the success thanks to a display of great maturity: 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the absolute leader Della Valle, 15 points and 7 rebounds for Burnell, 11 points from Ivanovic and a solid performance from Bilan (9 points and 9 rebounds). Numbers and, above all, the character of a great team.
Germani thus continues her extraordinary journey: she wins even when she struggles, suffers, remains clear in key moments and sends a clear message to the championship. Brescia is there, of course.
