Georgia men’s tennis dominated Georgia Tech 4-0 in Atlanta. The victory marked the Bulldogs’ 75th win in the all-time series and their 15th consecutive victory over the Yellow Jackets.

In doubles, Georgia started strong as senior Will Jansen and sophomore Gabriele Vulpitta secured a 6-0 victory over Gianluca Carlini and Hidde Schoenmakers. Graduate student Derrick Chen and freshman Noah Johnston secured the doubles point for the Bulldogs after defeating Elias Shokry and Robert Bauer 6-1. It was the first time this season that both doubles pairs competed together.

The third doubles match, between Arda Azkara and Santiago Giamichelle of Georgia and Richard Biagiotti and Jonathan Irwanto of the Yellow Jackets, was left inconclusive with the score 3-3.

Georgia entered the singles competition with a 1-0 lead. Johnston, ranked number 100, closed his match in straight sets against Biagiotti. The 6-1, 6-2 victory improved his individual record for the season to 7-2.

On court two, No. 23-ranked Jansen defeated Carlini 6-3, 6-3, extending the Bulldogs’ lead to 3-0. Azkara surprised the number 72 in the ranking, Schoenmakers, to ensure the victory for Georgia. The graduate student thus achieved his fourth singles victory of the season with a score of 6-4 and 6-2.

On court three, number 33 in the ranking, Giamichelle, faced Irwanto, with the match stopped at 6-3, 5-3. On court five, 119th-ranked Vulpitta had won the first set 7-6 (8) against Shokry when Azkara clinched the match. The match on court six between Chen and Bauer was 6-2, 5-3.

Georgia will continue on the road to compete in the ITA Kickoff Weekend, beginning with a matchup against Boise State on Saturday, January 24.
