Shortly before the Olympics: Geiger celebrates his combined World Cup victory
At the 2022 Olympics, Vinzenz Geiger won gold thanks to a fantastic comeback. He will demonstrate this ability again shortly before the Winter Games in Italy.
Shortly before the Olympics, Vinzenz Geiger presented himself in impressive form. At the Nordic Combined World Cup in Seefeld, the 28-year-old prevailed thanks to a strong finish sprint and celebrated his second victory of the season. The two-time Olympic champion intercepted the Austrian Johannes Lamparter by 0.2 seconds. The Norwegian Jens Luraas Oftebro came in third place.
After two out of three competitions at the Seefeld Triple, last year’s winner Geiger also has a good chance of successfully defending his title at the prestigious event. He started tenth in cross-country skiing.
“Happiness to Vinz, it was a very, very strong race,” said national coach Eric Frenzel on ZDF. “He made it strong. The joy is huge.” The first competition at the Winter Games in Milan and Cortina for the male combined athletes is on February 11th.
Armbruster was also strong at the end
Nathalie Armbruster also showed a fantastic sprint and achieved a podium place. After jumping, the 20-year-old started the trail in fifth place and pushed past the Norwegian Marte Leinan Lund into third place on the home straight.
“I’m incredibly proud of my finish sprint, I can really rely on it,” said Armbruster on ZDF. “It feels really good to be here on the podium now.”
After fourth place at the start of the mass start competition on Friday, last year’s winner can also hope to be on the podium in the overall ranking of the Seefeld Triple. The Norwegian Ida Marie Hagen took the victory of the day. Unlike men, women do not take part in the Winter Games.
