Inveready GBC survived Palmer’s accumulation of talent with the latest signings of Scrubb, Atencia or Sanadze and was able to avoid playing … with only one point guard, Gaizka Maiza, due to the losses of Zubizarreta and Varela. Sergio García already said it in the preview when he warned that the bottom team has players of a tremendous level. The GBC too, and opens 2026 in the best way.
He knew how to suffer, he waited for his moment, Korsantia and especially Ngom were giants and with a partial 0-11 in the final minutes of the final quarter, he bagged a great victory. The seventh in a row that makes him look only up. In addition to the posts, a great match for Tate, with 18 points and enormous defense on Scrubb, the same as Motos and Ansorregi. They always are. Their last names should sponsor an insurance company. Great victory knowing that on a bad day shooting from three (4 of 18) the penetrations, Ngom’s dunks and points from close range are also valid to lead to victory.
Watching Phil Scrubb’s first two rebounds is enough to realize the level of the Canadian player. Palmer turned the game over to his new guard and did not disappoint: 10 points in the first five minutes. The thing is that the GBC also has good players and Korsantia made nine in this same time. Hansel Atencia and Jalen Tate took the lead in that one-on-one, but the Balearic team felt better on the court, had more success and stretched to 21-13 (min. 8).

Maiza and Tate, with Motos, were in charge of ordering the attack. Palmer had a maximum of nine in the first half, 28-19, when Sergio García stopped the game. He organized ideas and four points were created by Tate and Manex so that it rained less. Scrubb missed his first shot and that gave Gipuzkoa Basket wings: it proved that the guard was human. The free kick left the Gipuzkoans close and, with a triple from Maiza, they fell behind Palmer, 33-31 (min. 16). The home team stretched, time-outs followed and McGhie entered the game with five points in a row, plus another basket from Korsantia and a tap-in from Ngom, after three efforts, which turned the score around, 39-40 (min. 19). The Georgian, very active, finished the first half with double figures, 14 points and 10 rebounds but with a series of five out of twelve in shooting.
Mates y mates
Gipuzkoa Basket wanted their time in Inca to last. And Tanor Ngom almost took the rim home. The Dakar lighthouse hung violently on Palmer’s basket four times and a dunk finish by Tate shook the foundations of the Balearic pavilion. After an offensive rebound or because his teammates found him, Ngom began to add to the attack and scare people near the GBC rim. That’s why Palmer only scored from the free throw and a single Atencia triple for Gipuzkoa Basket to take the lead, 50-52 (min. 28). The Guipuzcoan team could not find good shots from outside for either McGhie or Hanzlik and decided to be a hammer. But it was by no means a simple victory. And Scrubb appeared with a triple and several actions by Roberts made the bottom player in sheep’s clothing dream of victory, 60-56 (min. 34).
However, this Inveready Gipuzkoa Basket proved to have more boards than a Viking ship. Ansorregi scored four points, a shot from Tate put him ahead and two free throws from Motos gave him some breathing space. The San Sebastian native did not want to stop there and after great defense he nailed a three-pointer from the corner that bore the mark of victory, 60-67 with 2:17 remaining. A triumph that Jalen Tate put into his pocket with a penetration and two free throws that tasted like glory.
