GAZİANTEP (AA) – Gaziantep Basketball, one of the Türkiye Sigorta Turkish Basketball League teams, won 30 of 35 matches under the management of head coach Şemsettin Baş.
The Southeastern representative had only 6 wins in the first 18 weeks of the 2024-2025 season and parted ways with head coach Ali Yıldırım when it fell to the 16th place.
Continuing the season with Şemsettin Baş, the Gaziantep team won 13 of 16 matches and finished the league in 7th place.
The experienced head coach, who had an intense preparation period at the beginning of this season and formed his own squad, enjoyed victory in 17 of the 19 matches he played in the league, and took the team from the bottom ranks last season to the leadership seat this season.

Şemsettin Baş, who is aiming for the Super League with his team that won the last 10 matches, told the AA reporter that they worked well as a team and success came when their players believed in the system.
Stating that he cares more about the team’s success than individual statistics, Baş said:
‘I always say that my system is a system that is competitive, away from individualism, based on team play, helping each other and sharing the ball. The players we had last year believed in this. This year we chose ourselves, we chose the players suitable for the format and game order. When I recruit players, I first look at their character. I look for players with character, who fight and sacrifice themselves for their team, rather than good players or very useful players who have played in other teams. ‘I am especially happy to have established this type of team.’

Stating that they want to win all the matches as a team, Baş said, ‘Even if we lose, let’s lose by fighting and fighting until the last ball. We were a team that lost very hard. We have 14 matches remaining, the final match. We are the leader now, we finished the first half as the leader. We hope to finish the second half as a leader and become champions.’ he said.

Stating that the success of the team always makes him happy, Baş said, ‘Off the field, Mr. Boray and Mr. Özer give us an incredible opportunity to work, we only concentrate on the field. Our club provides us with all kinds of opportunities, and we can convince our players.’ he said.
