Coco Gauff on Saturday at the United Cup

Defending champion USA started the 2026 United Cup with a 2-1 win against Argentina. However, the victory probably comes with a high price: Taylor Fritz, who lost his opening singles match against Sebastian Baez in three sets, was later seen by the tournament director. Possibly to log out of the rest of the event? The top American player has been complaining about pain in his knee for a long time.

But first things first: Fritz and Baez started in Group A, the Argentine surprisingly won 4:6, 7:5 and 6:4. This meant that Coco Gauff was already under pressure. But the two-time Grand Slam winner had no problems at all with Solana Sierra at 6:1 and 6:1.

McDonald instead of Fritz against Spain?

In the doubles, Gauff then won the decisive point alongside Christian Harrison against Guido Andreozzi and Maria Carlé 6:4 and 6:1.

Argentina has already played two games in the 2026 United Cup. Baez and Co. won the first against Spain 3-0. The meeting with the Spanish is still pending for the USA. And the top singles will probably be played by Mackenzie McDonald instead of Taylor Fritz. Probably against Jaume Munar.
