French Basketball: ASVEL, SIG & TOAC Results & Standings

The latest decisions of the Management Control Commission of the French Basketball Federation could cost several clubs a lot. While Metz was stripped of a mere ten points in total, ASVEL Féminin, SIG Féminine and TOAC were also sanctioned after the study of procedures initiated at the end of last season.

If their penalties are less compared to the Canonniers, they could still cost these three clubs very dearly for their maintenance in particular.

ASVEL Féminin and SIG are getting closer to the red zone

In fact, ASVEL Féminin sees itself withdrawn “1 point in the ranking of phase 1 of Boulangère Wonderligue for non-compliance with the validated 2024/25 budget and non-compliance with the reserve fund obligation for the 2024/25 season”. The Lyon club could also compete in the championship playdowns with 1 point behind, if it participates.

The sanction sounds like a hard blow for Yoann Cabioc’h’s girls, who were just one point ahead of the last three teams in the LBWL ranking. They therefore fall to 8 points, as many as Chartres, Angers and Toulouse, where they had just lost.

The situation is similar for the SIG Féminine Illkirch-Graffenstaden. The Alsatians suffered 2 withdrawal points, for “presentation of a negative net situation for a club moving into a higher division and production of documents that are incomplete, or unreliable, or do not present the reality of the club’s financial situation”. The athlete is also clearly impacted, since the club goes from 11th to 13th and penultimate place in the LF2 ranking, tied with the Federal Center.

For TOAC, in NM2, the sanction is necessarily tinged with a certain bitterness even if the mechanisms are different. The Toulouse club was runner-up in the first phase of Pool B of Nationale 2, and was penalized with one point withdrawn for “for non-compliance with a decision relating to the management method and presentation of final annual accounts showing a financial situation different from that presented in the accounting estimate produced at the end of the previous season”.

With now 22 points, TOAC finds itself two lengths behind leader Garonne ASPTT (24 points) but above all only one length ahead of its leading pursuers. JSA Bordeaux and Dax could overtake it this weekend, while TOAC hosts Saturday January 17… the leader.
