A wild football game at the start of the second half of the season took place on Friday evening in Deutsche Bank Park. Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund drew 3-3 after 90 turbulent minutes. The Bundesliga made a spectacular comeback.
Dortmund got off to a better start. With the first clear action, Maximilian Beier gave BVB the lead after Julian Ryerson played sharply inside from the right (10th). Frankfurt needed some time to get going, but they improved increasingly and deservedly came back. After a foul by Serhou Guirassy on Robin Koch, Can Uzun safely converted the penalty to make it 1-1 (22nd).
After the break, Dortmund took the initiative again. An improperly cleared ball from Arthur Theate landed at the feet of Felix Nmecha, whose long-range shot – slightly deflected – found the net to make it 2-1 for BVB (68th). But Frankfurt reacted promptly: Just three minutes later, Younes Ebnoutalib crowned his starting debut with the equalizer. After a fine pass from Arnaud Kalimuendo, the attacker remained ice cold and lobbed the ball over Gregor Kobel to make it 2-2 (71′).
Two goals in stoppage time
The final phase was tough. In the second minute of stoppage time, Eintracht seemed to hit the lucky punch: After a confusing scene in Dortmund’s penalty area, Mahmoud Dahoud got to the ball and hit a deflection from around 13 meters to make it 3-2. Frankfurt already thought it was on the winning road.
But Dortmund threw everything forward in the long added time – with success. In the sixth minute of injury time, Marcel Sabitzer brought a cross from the right into the penalty area. Carney Chukwuemeka controlled the ball somewhat fortunately and shot in from close range to make the final score 3-3. The late equalizer marked the end of a game that will be remembered for a long time with its many twists and turns, emotions and stories.
