The fatal accident occurred on the Thai island of Ko Samui, where the player was vacationing. When he and his girlfriend wanted to take a joint photo at the famous Na Muang 2 waterfall, the pair lost their balance and fell.

The young woman saved herself by grabbing hold of one of the branches and calling for help.

The footballer was not so lucky. Despite the quick intervention of the local rescue services, they found his body with no signs of life near the waterfall.

Vergo is believed to have slipped and fallen several meters into the swollen river, hitting rocks hard. Preliminary autopsy results indicate that death was caused by severe head injuries sustained in the fall.

His club Quimper Ergue-Armel said goodbye to the young footballer through social networks and expressed condolences to the family.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce to the public the death of Alexi Vergo, son of Thierry, coach of our C-team and a long-time volunteer of the club.

Alexi started his football career with us at the age of six. The whole club is with his family and friends at this difficult time,” the statement said.
