A blessing with an impact: Before the decisive game in the US National Football League (NFL) between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday (local time), a priest blessed the field in Pittsburgh. A Short video published on the “X” platform Reporter Jenna Harner shows the clergyman praying with one hand on the floor of the end zone in front of the line at the end of the field before kickoff of the football game. The priest then uses a travel aspergill to sprinkle the field with holy water.
The last game of the regular season was about a place in the final round (play-offs) for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens. The close game was ultimately decided by a single shot by the Baltimore Ravens in the final seconds of the game. However, kicker Tyler Loop missed the goalposts. These are at the end of exactly the end zone that the priest had previously blessed.
While the Baltimore Ravens’ season is now over, the Pittsburgh Steelers still have a chance of making it to the Super Bowl with this narrow victory. The final game is the most important football event in the USA and the largest individual sporting event in the world. Next weekend they will host the Houston Texans – perhaps a blessing will be needed again. (cbr)
