According to the organizers, the 2nd stage of the Folkrace and Autocross Winter Cup held on January 18th at the Brenguļi highway turned out to be really great, gathering more than 70 participants, which means that several hundred guests from other regions and cities of the country visited the road and the Valmiera region. Several hundreds of spectators and media representatives also visited the fight site.
There are more than 70 participants one of the largest numbers of participants in the winter autocross season in recent years, both on the Brenguli highway and in this sport in general. Winter driving is not only exciting and quite different from summer battles, but also a thorough school for every participant, both young athletes and experienced cross-country and Folkrace masters. We are pleased that Sunday’s competition was so enjoyable for both athletes and spectators!
Regarding the competition from the sporting side, the battles of the Brenguli auto track provided amazing results for folk races and autocross. Baiba Beržuk won the folk race elementary classwho is the first lady in Folkrace’s 17-year history to win the overall. By winning the individual final of the Ladies’ Cup, she also became the most victorious member of the Folkrace Ladies’ class, achieving her 13th victory in this competition.
In the basic folk race class, Klāvs Žvagins took the second place after Baiba, which is another significant surprise: firstly, this is Klāv’s first overall podium, and secondly, Klāvs is the son of Baiba Beržuk – so a double victory for the family! Third place in the basic class was won by Adrian Nickel from Newcliffe, also his first Falkrace podium.
Madars Krapans won the folk race in the 4WD class (cars with all-wheel drive)leaving behind Edgars Tralls from Smilteni and Ivo Gabrans from Sigulda. Folkrace in the RWD class (rear wheel drive) was won by Elmar Orlov, leaving behind Elvi Hak and Igor Makarov.
In the Autocross Winter Cup class, Valmiermuiž driver Mārtiņš Meļķis achieved victorybecoming one of the leaders of the season. Behind him were Māris Riekstiņš and Ivo Gabrāns, who competed in two classes during the day, taking third place in both.
