Fluminense beat Nova Iguaçu 3-2, this Thursday (22/01), in a game valid for the third round of the Campeonato Carioca, at the Estádio Luso Brasileiro. Kevin Serna, twice, and Everaldo scored the winning goals for Tricolor, which reaches six points and moves up to second place in Group A.
Tricolor returns to the field next Sunday (25/01) to face Flamengo, in the fourth round of the Campeonato Carioca. The match will be at 6pm, at Maracanã.
FIRST HALF
In a truncated start to the game, Fluminense created the first opportunities to score. In the first minute, Eve shot from distance for the goalkeeper to save. At 17, Lucho Acosta took a corner and PH Ganso finished low, blocked by the defender. At 23, Ignácio headed in, Everaldo slipped and the ball fell to Martinelli, who shot dangerously wide.
Although Tricolor had more volume in attack, Nova Iguaçu opened the scoring in the 26th minute in their only opportunity in the first stage. After the goal, Fluminense again created dangerous chances. At 29, Everaldo received a low cross from Canobbio and sent it over. At 35, Canobbio sent the ball into the net, but the referee signaled an offside.
Close to halftime, Fluminense continued to press in search of a draw. In the 43rd minute, after a corner kick, Canobbio dominated and shot wide. At 47, PH Ganso took a free kick and the goalkeeper blocked it.
SECOND HALF
Tricolor was more efficient with the chances created after the break. In the eighth minute, PH Ganso took a corner, Martinelli glanced at the first post and Kevin Serna completed the goal. At 12, Everaldo received it from Samuel Xavier, turned and shot left-handed to score Tricolor’s second and turn the match around.
With the partial victory, Fluminense continued to attack and had opportunities to score. At 19, Lucho Acosta launched Kevin Serna, who cut to the middle and shot wide. A minute later, Everaldo was brought down in the area, the referee awarded a penalty and sent off the opposing defender. Canobbio took the shot and the goalkeeper saved it. On the rebound, Everaldo sent it out. Nova Iguaçu tied the match after 26 minutes.
With one more player, Tricolor soon led the score again. In the 34th minute, PH Ganso took a free kick against the post and Serna took advantage of the rebound to score Fluminense’s third. At the end of the match, the team continued to build opportunities. At 40, Guga crossed and Serna finished for the goalkeeper to save. In the next move, John Kennedy received a cross from Canobbio and shot blocked by the defense. At 46, Nonato launched Canobbio, who took it from the goalkeeper, but the defense cleared it. At 49, John Kennedy received it from Lima, shot into the corner and forced the goalkeeper to make a great save.
