FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said on Wednesday that Xabi Alonso had a “beautiful future” in football despite his ouster by Real Madrid after only eight months on the Madrid bench. The Basque, former coach of Bayer Leverkusen, was replaced on Monday by his former teammate Alvaro Arbeola the day after Real’s defeat in the Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona (3-2).
“We have to continue, we have to think about what we can improve, but he is a fantastic coach and he has a bright future” in the profession, said the German technician during a press briefing before the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey against Santander (D2) on Thursday. Flick believes the former Liverpool and Bayern Munich player will bounce back quickly and land another big coaching job.

“It’s football and it’s none of my business, but what I can say is that I have a very good relationship with Xabi,” added the Barça coach. I met him in Leverkusen, when I was coach of the (German) national team, I always stayed in contact with him. He’s a fantastic coach. »
