Filip Gravenfors: Piste Skater Misses Olympics

Hear Gravenfors tell about the announcement in the player above.

It was Dagens Nyheter as first came with the news that 21-year-old hump-skier Filip Gravenfors will miss the Olympics in Milan Cortina, which start next week. During a training session in Ruka, Finland, the accident happened. He landed badly on a jump and how something “popped” in the shoulder.

SVT Sport has spoken to Gravenfors, who is noticeably taken.

– I immediately felt that the shoulder popped, while I was trying to get down, there were a lot of thoughts spinning. I immediately understood that it was something strange, he says and continues:

– I have ruined my Olympic dream, it was very terrible. I never want to feel that feeling again.

This season, Gravenfors has been on the podium twice.

– I don’t know if there are words that can describe that feeling, it’s sickeningly raw. It feels terrible and so close. I felt so good in shape.

The hope is to be there during the Olympics

But the 21-year-old says that he will support his friends on the spot.

– Humpback piste is a sport that is incredibly brutal, you just have to look ahead. I hope I have an operation soon, then I want to go and check on my teammates. I want to cheer for Sweden, I want to see the Olympic thing because I’ve never been to an Olympics. Now I will join from the sidelines, he says.

Gravenfors was a big medal hope for Sweden in parallel hump. From before, it is clear that Robin Olgård misses out after a knee injury.
