Failing to see AS Monaco shine on its lawn in recent weeks, the Louis-II stadium will host a real football spectacle this Saturday January 24 (3:30 p.m.). After five successful editions, the Fight Aids Cup returns to the principality with an ever-expanding list of big names in football. The association led by Princess Stéphanie supports people carrying the HIV virus and has carried out charitable operations since 2004.
For the occasion, Monegasque spectators will be able to witness a nice opposition with, on one side, the “Barbagiguans” team. Eden Hazard will make his very first appearance at this event, alongside Clarence Seedorf, Robert Pires, Ludovic Giuly and Christian Karembeu. Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc, who will win one of his pairs of gloves worn in a raffle, will also be there.

“It is also about raising public awareness on a larger scale and broadening our field of intervention, thanks in particular to the diversity of former glories which represent us today. This concept must be long-term and the FIGHT AIDS CUP which is emerging will strengthen our approach to integrating new members into the great Barbagiuans family,” rejoices Louis Ducruet, captain of the team, in a press release.
The nephew of Prince Albert II and his teammates will face the “Cirque FC” team, led by its captain Andriy Shevchenko who will be accompanied by several legends of Italian football. “The real victory lies not in the final score, but in the funds raised for a good cause. I hope that this collective effort will achieve the expected results,” explains the 2004 Golden Ball winner, current president of the Ukrainian Football Federation.
The spectacle will be there despite the obvious domination of “Cirque FC” during the first five editions. Princess Stéphanie’s team has four victories against just one for the “Barbagiguans”. More than a competition, the Fight Aids Cup promises to be a true celebration of football and solidarity.
