Feyenoord has been awarded an FRS score of 25 by the KNVB. That is an increase of seven points compared to the previous two seasons, in which the club was stuck at 18 points. The score is determined annually by the KNVB licensing committee and is based on an audit of the annual figures for the 2024-2025 season and the forecast for 2025-2026.
The Financial Rating System (FRS) is the instrument with which the KNVB assesses the financial position of all professional football organizations. The measurement takes place once per season and is based on so-called reporting moment 1. This reporting moment consists of the final annual figures for the past season and a financial forecast for the current financial year, which clubs are required to provide.
The FRS score is determined on the basis of six core financial variables. These variables each have their own weight and are assessed within established bandwidths. The outcome for each variable yields points, which are ultimately added up to one total score. The higher the point total, the stronger the financial position is estimated according to the KNVB.
With a total score of 15 points or lower, a club is obliged to draw up an action plan for the licensing committee. With 25 points, Feyenoord is well above that lower limit and therefore falls into a more stable category. The score partly determines whether the KNVB imposes additional conditions or applies stricter supervision.
The six core variables on which the KNVB assesses the clubs consist of both historical figures and future expectations. This concerns the working capital position (current assets in relation to current liabilities), the solvency (resilience in relation to total assets) and the historical net margin over the past season.
In addition, the personnel cost ratio, the buffer of liquid assets based on the forecast and the expected net margin for the current season are taken into account. Each variable has a fixed multiplier, which determines how much it counts in the final score. The outcome of a variable is classified into a scale, after which the scale is multiplied by the corresponding multiplier. The sum of these six scores forms the final FRS point total.
