Fernstädt Returns: Beaming After Success

Today in Winterberg, the twenty-nine-year-old native of Prague reached the sixth time in the first run, she managed the second one even better, and in total she was surpassed only by the Austrian Janine Flocková and the American Mystique Roová. 61 hundredths of a second separated Fernstädtová from the victorious Flocková and at the same time her first triumph in the WC.

Heavy snow complicated the World Cup in Winterberg today. The men’s race was interrupted and eventually canceled by the organizers after the first round due to the large amount of snow in the ice trough, as well as the mixed doubles competition in the evening.

The women went to the fifth cup part of the Olympic season an hour later than planned. Fernstädt won silver last year in the German center. Today, halfway through the competition, she was sixth, half a second behind Roova, in the second run, she showed the second fastest time. Thanks to the third bronze in the World Cup, she improved by one place in the interim ranking and is fourth. Flocková took the lead and after the 15th triumph in her career, she came close to the fourth overall championship.

During the next weekend, St. Moritz will host the sixth SP race, which will also be the European Championship. The skeleton women will then complete the general practice for the Olympic Games at the World Cup finals in Altenberg.

The men’s race without Timon Drahoňovský was significantly affected by persistent snowfall. SP leader Matt Weston, who has won three of the four races so far and was second once, was already significantly behind at the halfway point and eventually recorded only the eighth time. Surprisingly, the fastest was the Austrian Alexander Schlintner, whose best finish of the season so far was 19th place. However, the unfavorable weather, which led to the cancellation of the race, deprived him of the result of his life.
