Federer Favors Alcaraz Over Sinner: Insights Revealed

The Australian Open received this Thursday one of the great legends of tennis: the Swiss Roger Federerwho returned to Melbourne three years after his retirement as a professional and who this Saturday will be the protagonist in one of the previous events of the tournament before the final start of the draw this Sunday.

A Federer who did not hesitate to address the media present in Melbourne to talk about the two great figures of men’s tennis today: the Italian Jannik Sinner and the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz, analyzing the playing style of both.

In the case of Sinner, Federer believes that, if he had played against him, he would have done the same as Dimitrov did at the last Wimbledon, since he had a very similar playing style to the Bulgarian, who had the Italian on the ropes before retiring due to injury. “At Wimbledon, when Grigor Dimitrov was playing against Jannik Sinner and I was there to see him, I found it very easy to see what it would have been like to play Sinner because Grigor plays in a very similar way to me. I think it was one of the first times I thought about what it would have been like to play against Jannik. I didn’t feel the same when I saw Sinner playing against Djokovic in Shanghai, there I saw a great tennis match because they both played tennis very different from mine.”

A Federer who, however, believes that his way of playing tennis is more similar to that of Carlos Alcaraz, highlighting the similarities with the Spaniard in many aspects of the game. “When I see Carlos Alcaraz, I feel that there are more similarities in terms of what he would doin how he would do a drop shot, when to go up to the net, in how offensive or passive he decides to play because I think we both like to play in our own way. So I would put myself more in Alcaraz’s mentality and shoes, whereas with Sinner I only thought once: ‘Now I understand how I would play against Sinner.’”
