Farioli Injury Update: Porto vs Gil Vicente Preview

O FC Porto revealed, this Friday, the names present in the clinical report after the visit to the Czech Republic in the draw against Viktoria Plzen (1-1), a game that counted for the seventh and penultimate round of the single league phase of the Europa League.

Hours after the match in Czechia, longer than expected due to a travel delay caused by the plane breakdown, the squad led by the Italian Francesco Farioli began preparing for the game with Gil Vicente, counting for the 19th round of the highest level of national football.

In addition to the already known names on the list, with Nehuén Pérez and Luuk de Jong recovering from long-term injuries, the highlight is the inclusion of Victor Froholdt, who left with complaints after the game in the Czech Republic and was even caught limping on the way up to the plane that brought the FC Porto delegation back to Portugal this Friday afternoon.

After getting ready later than expected, the blue and whites revealed that the Denmark international midfielder did not train with the rest of the main team, having been treated for a “trauma to his right foot”. Apparently, the Nordic midfielder should not be on the game sheet for the duel at Estádio do Dragão against Gil Vicente, on Monday night, which closes round 19 of the I League (from 8:45 pm).

The FC Porto main team enjoys a day back on Saturday, returning to training at the Jorge Costa Sports Training and Training Center (CTFD), located in Olival, in Gaia, on Sunday morning. From 1:10 pm (Mainland Portugal time) on that same day, the coach of the blue and whites, Francesco Farioli, will preview the match against Gil Vicente, in the now traditional press conference.

What happened to Victor Froholdt?

Towards the end of the match with Viktoria Plzen, while approaching the opposite area, the Danish midfielder tried to shoot and Doski, when trying to prevent the Nordic midfielder’s intentions, ended up making his foot collide violently with the blue and white player’s ankle.

Froholdt became complaining almost immediately and didn’t even go to thank the fans for their support, speaking to doctor Nélson Puga before retiring to the changing rooms. Shortly after the match, and at a press conference, Francesco Farioli had announced that his player would undergo an MRI to try to understand the extent of the injury.

“Going for an MRI tomorrow [sexta-feira]. He was in pain and needs to be re-evaluated”, the Transalpine native had said. It now remains to be seen whether Froholdt will only miss the game against Gil Vicente, which is almost certain, or also the reception against Sporting for the championship which is scheduled for two and a half weeks from now, on February 9th.
