Eto’o Sanctioned: CAF Punishes Football Chief

The behavior of Samuel Eto’o during the quarter-final lost by Cameroon against Morocco made headlines and displeased CAF, the African football confederation.

Marc Brys will certainly have had a little grin of satisfaction upon learning that his former federation president, Samuel Eto’o, was fired by CAF. At issue: the attitude of the president of Fécafoot (Cameroonian football federation) during the quarter-final lost by Cameroon against Morocco.

Samuel Eto’o was in fact sanctioned with a 4-match suspension for “bad conduct” during the match, and will be banned from accessing the stadium during this period.

Unsportsmanlike behavior by Samuel Eto’o

This suspension is accompanied by a heavy fine of 20,000 dollars (around 17,000 euros) for his “violation of the rules of fair play” during the quarter-final on January 9.

Eto’o was filmed during the match and was visibly angry with the referee’s decisions, and in particular a penalty not called against Bryan Mbeumo.

Fécafoot has already reacted to this sanction, which it considers unjustified and “devoid of any explicit motivation” via a press release.
