With the nerves of the first time, Teresa Errandonea placed the starting blocks this Saturday around 3:25 p.m. … the central straight of the blue synthetic of the San Sebastian velodrome. In front of her, more than two years later, those hurdles that have given her so much. The Irundarra, a 2021 Olympian in Tokyo and five-time Spanish champion, returned to the competition. They were 90 minutes of enjoyment in which she showed that she is once again being competitive. He lacks training, but the class and ambition are there.
There were going to be four 60-meter races this Saturday (two with hurdles and two without), but a failure in the video finish in his first series, the one scheduled at 3:30 p.m., meant that he had to run five times in just an hour and a half. She left with 8.37 in the hurdles (her personal best is 8.00) and 7.75 in the flats (she has 7.48) in a day that was undoubtedly exciting for her and for all her family and friends who experienced her redebut firsthand.
That first hurdle race, the one at 3:30 p.m., was the worst for Errandonea, who moved in heels. It went wrong. And he limited himself to reaching the finish line so he could run the final later. But the judges informed the athletes shortly after that the series had to be repeated. There were no official times. The Iundaran from the Super Amara BAT, at around 3:45 p.m., ran the hurdles again (8.37), being surpassed only by the Biscayan Claudia Villalante (8.31), one of the best specialists at the state level (she was Spanish champion in the summer of 2024).
“It has been a bit crazy to run so many races in such a short time, but it is just another workout,” he noted. Ramón Cid, his coach, had told him that he believed he would run at a mark close to 8.30. And so it was.
She didn’t even have a ten minute break before running the 60 meter dash in 7.75 (she was the fastest). And at 16:55 he faced the fences again (8:41 this time). He reached the finish line, again after Villalante, and Errandonea had to quickly return to the blocks to run less than five minutes later another series of 60 (7.79, won). This is how his 90 minutes of return ended.
«I have made technical errors. I need to get off the fence quickly, I need to get the supports in faster… But I think being the first competition after two and a half years is fine. The feeling I leave with is that I want Monday to arrive so I can go to train and continue working, because I think I can achieve my previous marks. I’m leaving wanting more,” concluded Errandonea after 90 minutes of enjoyment and absolute madness.
Calbano is like a shot
The other great Gipuzkoan protagonist of the day at the velodrome was Andoni Calbano. The Bergararra sprinter from Real made his debut this season after his excellent summer of 2025, in which he was proclaimed Spanish 200m champion.
The Basque double hectometer record holder, who in the short and indoor ring has 20.95 since last year, ran in his debut in 21.00 offering fantastic sensations. It’s like a shot. “I’m very happy because I know that I also have one more point,” he said, staying very close to his record. It was just over an hour after running a 60, a distance too short for him, in 6.86, with the young Eneko Rodríguez in 6.94.
In the 400 meters, Adrián Rocandio from San Sebastian scored a good 47.85.
