Maresca is also said to be angry with suggestions that he had a falling out with the club’s medical staff after risking the health of key players such as Cole Palmer and Reece James. He felt frustrated because he often had to deal with club officials, especially regarding team selection and potential player changes.
However, it is predicted that Maresca will soon return to the sidelines. English League legend Alan Shearer believes that Maresca’s reputation remains high.
The EPL’s all-time top scorer said: “Maresca’s tenure at Chelsea should be seen as a successful one. They beat last year’s best team, PSG; he beat Coach of the Year. They won the Conference League, which was in line with expectations, but not many expected them to win the Club World Cup.”
“They’re around the top four, so for me he’s done a very good job. He’s leaving with a high reputation. I don’t think he’ll have any difficulty getting another job, given his performance at Chelsea and Leicester City. As for whether he can get a big job, that depends. There’s talk about Man City, but it all depends on Pep Guardiola’s decision to leave. But what’s clear is he [Maresca] will have no difficulty finding work either in England or abroad.”
Shearer added: “Going into the Chelsea job, you know what the club is like, very different in terms of management. That’s not Maresca’s fault, it’s the people above him. Their model is obviously to buy young players, develop them, give them crazy long contracts only to sell them. I’m not sure you can win the Premier League that way. Maybe get into the top four because you can spend, but in essence, the next coach has to do better than the one who just left.”
