Led by Endrick, untenable and author of a hat-trick, OL had an eighth consecutive success in all competitions, and a fourth in Ligue 1, on the pitch of a weak Metz team (2-5). For his first on the Grenats bench, Benoît Tavenot experienced a real nightmare.
Hired in the form of a six-month loan in the Rhône with the ambition of being invited to the next World Cup with the Seleção, Endrick is already making OL happy. The young prodigy was the great architect of the Lyon demonstration in Moselle against the red lantern, Metz. Thanks to this success, Lyon moves into fourth place in the ranking, two lengths behind Olympique de Marseille, winners the day before over Racing Club de Lens (3-1).
Endrick scores a hat-trick
The expected shock did not take place in Metz after the dismissal of Stéphane Le Mignan and the appointment of Benoît Tavenot. The Corsican technician wanted to inject more grinta into a team already weighed down by forty goals conceded in eighteen days. We must add five more, including four in the first period. Despite an interesting start, marked by high pressing and encouraging aggression, the Garnets were quickly punished. Endrick opened the scoring with a subtle dive from the left on a service from Corentin Tolisso within six meters (0-1, 11th). A few minutes later, Ruben Kluivert, faithful to the family heritage, transformed into a surface fox by beating Jonathan Fischer on a cross from Khalis Merah (0-2, 16th).
Metz struggled to react and conceded a third goal on a powerful strike from Tyler Morton from outside the area, after a full-axis clearance from Terry Yegbe (0-3, 32nd). The Grenats nevertheless managed to reduce the gap through Koffi Kouao, following a restart error by Ruben Kluivert (1-3, 34th), before diving back just before the break. Untenable, Endrick offers a solitary rush concluded with composure in added time (1-4, 45th +1).
A minimalist reaction from Garnets
The player on loan from Real Madrid is not far from scoring a hat-trick from the restart, but twice comes up against Jonathan Fischer, author of two spectacular saves (47th, 54th). FC Metz came close to asphyxiation, but found a little air on a winning shot from Habib Diallo, receiving a precise cross from Koffi Kouao, the only Messin to survive (2-4, 64th).
This goal briefly wakes up the Garnets, who multiply the long shots, without managing to deceive a solid Greif on his line (55th, 57th, 66th). And as a symbol, Endrick ends up scoring the third goal he was looking for so much, by himself transforming a penalty obtained for a questionable foul by Giorgi Abuashvili (2-5, 87th).
Ligue 1 already seems at the feet of this talented Brazilian, who is panicking the counters. Committed on all fronts (championship, European Cup and Coupe de France), OL can dream of a very good second half of the season. On the other hand, it promises to be a very long one for FC Metz, which has only three victories in the league and now has forty-five goals conceded. Benoît Tavenot has his work cut out for him in a quest to maintain his position which should be a three-way affair, with Auxerre and Nantes, to grab the play-off position.
