Victor Nilsson Lindelöf, left Manchester United after last season. Just before the summer transfer window closed, he signed for Aston Villa.
And he has taken it upon himself. In the last six games, he has played all the minutes and now the Swede is highly praised by coach Unai Emery. At the same time as he reveals that he heard about Lindelöf from Juan Mata.
– I called Mata, his former teammate at United and I trained Mata in Spain. He is a great person and very intelligent. We talked about the possibility of signing Lindelöf, as a person and as a player but also his dedication, he says to the club’s channels.
Unai Emery says everything Juan Mata said was true.
– Everything he told me, we’ll see now. He is a great person, very professional and respectful. He was passionate about learning how we play. When we needed him the most, he played at the level we expected.
“Must not lower the bar”
At the same time, he puts pressure on 31-year-old Lindelöf.
– I am super happy and have said that he has set this level, now he must not lower the bar, says Emery.
Aston Villa are third in the table with the same number of points recorded as Manchester City who are second.
When Nilsson Lindelöf joined Manchester United in the summer of 2017, Mata was already part of the club since the winter of 2014, when he joined from Chelsea.
