Hertha BSC loses out in poker for Elias Saad. FC Augsburg has announced the winger’s loan to Hannover 96. “Sky” had previously reported on the impending transfer and medical check on Wednesday. There is no mention of a purchase option. Both clubs agreed not to disclose transfer details.

The 26-year-old will be the number four newcomer to Lower Saxony this winter. A winger, Freiburg, has already been brought in, while one, Jannik Rochelt, has left the club. Including Saad, 96 now has five left wingers in the squad.

Saad has a contract in Augsburg until June 2029 and played eleven games for 513 minutes this season (no goal, one assist). Since the coaching change from Sandro Wagner to Manuel Baum, the offensive man has not been on the pitch for the Fuggerstadt team. However, it should not be forgotten that Saad recently took part in the Africa Cup of Nations for Tunisia. For FC St. Pauli, which he left last summer for a fee of 2 million euros, he scored five goals in 19 games over 951 minutes in 2024/25. Saad’s market value has been constant at 4 million euros since October 2024.

While FCA brought Yannik Keitel (VfB) and Michael Gregoritsch (Bröndby) on loan in the winter, Phillip Tietz (to Mainz for 4 million euros) and Maximilian Bauer (to Bielefeld on loan) left the club.

Comments on the loan transfer from Augsburg’s Saad to Hannover 96

96 managing director Jörg Schmadtke said after the Saad loan deal was completed: “Elias brings the profile that we were looking for to further expand our options for our game in the final third. He certainly has a special quality in one-on-one games, is a very mobile player and finds good solutions even in tight spaces.”

Saad explained: “Hannover 96 plays a type of football that I totally see myself in. The style of play suits what makes me special. I want to find my way around quickly and help ensure that we play a really good second half of the season.”

FCA sports director Benjamin Weber added: “Elias had little playing time with us, but at the same time he has the clear goal of taking part in the World Cup with Tunisia. Therefore, a loan until the end of the season is the right step in the current situation. We wish him every success at Hannover 96 in the second half of the season.”
