Eintracht Frankfurt is making an ambitious start to 2026. The first few weeks are tough – there is a lot at stake in the next four weeks.
Frankfurt – The short winter break is over again. 13 days ago the final whistle sounded for Eintracht Frankfurt in their away game in Hamburg (1:1). A lot has happened since then. In addition to Love Arrhov, sports director Markus Krösche has brought in two more new signings, Keita Kosugi and Younes Ebnoutalib, while Elye Wahi has left the Hessians for Nice on loan without the option to buy.
Board spokesman Axel Hellmann had previously tightened the reins on communication, saying there was “a bit too much of a feel-good oasis”. The goal is clearly defined, it should be at least the Conference League. In the best case scenario, the people of Frankfurt naturally want more. The Europa League final will take place in the Main metropolis in 2027. Or will you make it back into the Champions League?
Eintracht is lying in wait
Eintracht is lying in wait in seventh place. Fourth place occupied by RB Leipzig is four points away. However, in order to have a realistic chance of achieving this coveted rank, the team coached by Dino Toppmöller needs a very good start. January has it all. Frankfurt has seven competitive games in the Bundesliga and premier class.

Borussia Dortmund will travel to the opening of the remaining round next Friday. Four days later it goes to VfB Stuttgart, around 72 hours later the leather rolls in Bremen. This is followed by the strenuous Champions League trip to Baku, where only victory counts. TSG Hoffenheim will be coming to the Waldstadion the following weekend.
There is no such thing as a breather in January. The duels against Tottenham Hotspur (January 28th) and Bayer Leverkusen (January 31st) round off a month of truth. In five Bundesliga games, Eintracht will face four teams that are currently above them in the table. Quo vadis, SGE? At least three times – against Dortmund, Hoffenheim and Bayer – the Frankfurters enjoy a home advantage.
Last season, the Hessians were able to win precisely in these key duels. Dortmund (2:0), Stuttgart (3:2) and Hoffenheim (3:1) had to admit defeat. The Toppmöller team must regain this strength. So far, Eintracht has lacked this consistency. The new additions should also ensure the sporting and atmospheric turnaround.
But above all, it depends on the Axis players. Too many players ran after their form in the final spurt or were missing due to injury. The many disappointments had left their mark mentally and physically. You have to shake all of this off and be wide awake from day one.
