Eagles’ Offensive Shift: Patullo’s New Role

Kevin Patullo will no longer be the Eagles’ offensive coordinator, Philadelphia club head coach Nick Sirianni announced Tuesday.

The Eagles were bounced in the first round on Sunday, losing 23-19 to the San Francisco 49ers.

They were trying to make their way to the Super Bowl and win it for a second year in a row.

The Eagles had lost the services of offensive coordinator Kellen Moore after the big game (he became head coach of the New Orleans Saints).

We turned to Patullo for the sake of continuity for quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley and wideouts AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith, in particular.

Patullo had overseen the Eagles’ aerial game since 2021, but the hiring did not lead to the desired level of success.

Philadelphia had to settle for 22.3 points per game this season, finishing in 19th place in the NFL in this regard.

“I met with Kevin today to tell him about a difficult decision,” Sirianni said Tuesday in a press release. He is an excellent coach, to whom I have the greatest respect.

“He has played a leading role in our successes over the past five years – not only on the field but also behind the scenes, as a leader. I am sure he will continue to have success as a coach. »

The Eagles will have a fifth offensive coordinator in six years (Shane Steichen in 2021 and 2022, Brian Johnson in 2023, then Moore and Patullo).
