Three people were arrested in the Schilderswijk for public violence, reports the Police. Two others were arrested for insult. Two arrests were also made for possession of fireworks. The last arrest was for disturbing public order.
Police intervene
Shortly after the match, about two hundred people, mainly young people, gathered on the corner of Vaillantlaan and Hoefkade, an ANP reporter saw. Groups of young people set off fireworks and also threw them at the officers present. The police then ordered them to leave. But not everyone responded. The police say they had to use force in some places to restore order.
Many cars drove around in the neighborhood honking their horns after the football match. There was a traffic jam around Vaillantlaan for some time. Around 1 a.m., peace seemed to have largely returned.
People also took to the streets in other cities after the final, but as far as we know there were no major problems. On Plein ’40-’45 in Amsterdam, some people lit fireworks and cars drove past honking their horns. That was it, according to a photographer from the ANP.
Cars also drove around on the West-Kruiskade in Rotterdam honking, said another reporter from the ANP. The police were visibly present, as were a number of neighborhood fathers in vests.
