Dressage: Borna Virus All-Clear for Diallo

The sudden death of her gelding Diallo hits Olympic dressage champion Jessica von Bredow-Werndl hard – and will make her return to the World Championships team difficult. Because top horses of this quality are rare. Contrary to what was previously suspected, the horse apparently did not die from Borna virus.

“According to current knowledge, all regionally relevant viruses (including Bornavirus!) can now be excluded,” Bredow-Werndl announced on her Instagram platform. “After ruling out further differential diagnoses, an unpredictable cause of the disease, such as a brain infarction, is a possible cause,” Bredow-Wendl continued. The ten-year-old Hanoverian gelding suddenly died of a mysterious illness a few days ago.
