Dobrovský & Šídlo: Navigating the Next 4 Years

Will the coalition of ANO, SPD and Motorists fall apart? What does the opposition need to win the next election? And why is it stupid to insult the voters of the YES movement? The next episode of the Dobrovský&Šídlo podcast answers listeners’ questions.

What happens every day of the existence of the new government coalition still greatly surpasses all imaginations, Jan Dobrovský and Jindřich Šídlo agree in the first episode of 2026.

“It’s a comedy, but only partially,” says Jan Dobrovský. “If you make someone a minister, say of defence, have them speak and then, under fire from social media trolls, ban them from speaking at all as a member of the government, it’s obviously great fun, but it’s also quite humiliating.”

Commentator Seznam Zpráv Jindřich Šídlo agrees with him: “As a person who has been making a living from satire for years, I claimed before the elections that the start of Babiš’s coalition would mean a big boost for us. And it is still true. It just sometimes occurs to one: Damn it, they really rule,” says Šídlo.

The podcast, in which the authors answered listeners’ questions, was recorded before Christmas, and therefore it has not yet included, for example, Tomio Okamura’s New Year’s speech. But a number of questions focused on what tactics – and slogan – the current opposition should choose in order to defeat the ANO movement and its new allies in the next elections.

“It’s not about a slogan. I think the most important thing will be for the new opposition leaders to demonstrate economic competence, the absence of which many voters reproached Fial’s government,” judges Jindřich Šídlo. “It will simply no longer be possible to build a campaign and strategy on values, which worked one time, not at all the second time, and it certainly won’t be enough next time.”

The businessman and chairman of the National Remembrance College, Jan Dobrovský, in turn had to deal with the question of the ANO voter, why they refer to him and like-minded people as “desolates”. “I have to object to that, I don’t use this term for ANO voters,” responded Jan Dobrovský. “I believe that every citizen is valuable to the country. Even one with whom I deeply disagree because they force their opponents to compete with them on the direction of the country.”

Should the possibility of voting be limited even from above, for example by the age limit of 70? How is the inability of the Czech Republic to build its transport infrastructure related to the country’s defense capability? And why do people already trust Babiš’s ministers Robert Plaga and Adam Vojtěch so much?
