Djokovic Wins 100th Australian Open Title | Record Equalled

AUSTRALIAN OPEN – Novak Djokovic (38) confidently entered this year’s Australian Open and recorded his jubilee 100th victory at the opening Grand Slam of the season. The most successful player in the history of the tournament was untouchable on his own serve and dealt with outsider Pedro Martínez (28) 6:3, 6:2, 6:2. In addition, he equaled the record of Roger Federer and Feliciano López.

Martínez – Djokovic 3:6, 2:6, 2:6

Djokovic scored another jubilee. His obligatory victory in the first round of the Australian Open meant that he reached another magical hundred. This time in the number of wins at the opening Grand Slam of the season, where he is the most successful player in history with 10 triumphs.

It was clear that the fight with Martínez would mainly be decided by the performance of the Serbian record holder. He was absolutely untouchable on his own serve, on which he lost only five points for the entire match. In the match, he scored 14 aces and hit 77% of first serves.

The Spaniard, who lacks weapons against the best players in the world and relies mainly on defense and excellent fitness, had no chance against the most successful tennis player of all time. He was able to resist the Serb for only two hours, allowing him 12 break points and losing serve five times. Djokovic produced 49 winning shots and 21 unforced errors in the duel.

The Australian Open is not the only Grand Slam where Djokovic has recorded a hundred wins. He also has this at the French Open (101) and at Wimbledon (102). He only needs the US Open (95) to complete his collection. In addition, he triumphed in Geneva and Athens in the previous season and climbed to 101 titles.

To make matters worse, he set another record as soon as he stepped onto the court. In total, with his 81st start at the Grand Slams, he tied the record of the open erawhich he now holds together with Roger Federer and Feliciano López. He should become independent in the first place already at the French Open.

While last year he started the Australian Open with a lost set against Nishesh Basavareddy, this time he was absolutely supreme and saved his strength for the next matches. This is very important at his advanced tennis age and deteriorating physical condition.

He will continue his attack on a record 25th Grand Slam laurel and the first since the US Open 2023 with a duel with Italian qualifier Francesco Maestrelli.
