MELBOURNE (Reuters) – The third round of the Australian Open (OP), the first Grand Slam tennis tournament, was held in Melbourne on the 24th, and in the men’s singles, fourth-seeded Novak Djokovic (Serbia), a 10-time champion, achieved 400 wins for the first time in a Grand Slam tennis tournament.
Djokovic defeated Botik Van Desensfulp (Netherlands) in straight sets 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 for his 102nd Australian Open title. He tied the number of wins with Roger Federer (Switzerland), who has won the tournament six times.
Second seed Yannik Sinner (Italy) advanced to the fourth round by defeating Elliott Spiculi (USA) 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Also advancing were 5th seed Lorenzo Musetti (Italy) and 8th seed Ben Shelton (USA).
In women’s singles, Iga Świętek (Poland), the second seed and aiming to complete a career Grand Slam, defeated the 31st seed, Anna Kalinskaya from Russia, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1.
Fourth seed Amanda Anisimova (USA), fifth seed Elena Rubakina (Kazakhstan), and sixth seed Jessica Pegula (USA) also advanced smoothly.
In women’s doubles, Shuko Aoyama and Magda Linette (Poland) lost in the second round.
