After a provocation, Dennis Schröder causes an incident in the NBA. Another world star is said to have been involved.

Los Angeles – The North American professional basketball league NBA has suspended German national player Dennis Schröder for three games. The 32-year-old Sacramento Kings player is said to have tried to attack his opponent Luka Dončić after a loss against the Los Angeles Lakers on December 28, 2025.

According to an NBA statement, the incident occurred approximately 40 minutes after the game in a hallway at the stadium. Schröder is said to have waited there for a player who was not named in the official statement and sought a confrontation. The situation is said to have escalated near the parking lot. Several US media outlets have consistently reported that it was the Slovenian Luka Dončić.

DBB captain Schröder is already on the court in a clinch with Dončić

The reports that Schröder was waiting for Dončić and not another LA Lakers player are obvious. Already during the game, which the Kings lost 101:125, there was a heated argument between Schröder and Dončić. Dončić had provoked Schröder, who then countered: “Come to the back. I’m not the type of guy you just talk to. I’ll flatten you.”

Apparently, Schröder later wanted to follow up his words on the court with actions. The fact that there was no complete escalation is said to be thanks to several players who were able to hold Schröder back before security arrived. The captain of the German national basketball team was then escorted onto the team bus.

The suspension means that the Sacramento Kings will have to do without the German point guard in the upcoming games against the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks. For Schröder himself, the ban initially means financial losses, as he will not receive any salary during the entire ban period. However, a discussion about the character of the EM hero is likely to start again in Germany. (sch)
