Denmark Handball: Strikes Threaten Euro Title Bid

The expected restrictions on local public transport next Monday will prevent a European Championship party for handball players in Germany.

“The German Handball Association had to stop planning for a big reception at home on Friday,” the DHB announced before the final this Sunday (6 p.m./ZDF and Dyn) against Denmark. The reason for this is, in addition to logistical and time constraints, the strike in particular. The Verdi union has called for warning strikes on public transport nationwide on Monday. The DHB had considered a reception in Hanover or Cologne.

Instead, national coach Alfred Gislason’s selection, which has secured silver, will be honored at the international match in the spring. “We are already planning a thank you for our fans around our national team’s next home international game on March 19th in Dortmund’s Westfalenhalle,” explained CEO Mark Schober. Then the German team meets Egypt.
