Myron van Brederode is under contract with KV Mechelen this season. At Mechelen he immediately became a permanent fixture in Fred Vanderbiest’s team. Bee ESPN he looked back on how the transfer came about.
Van Brederode chose Mechelen, but also had other options. “A number of clubs were interested. A number of deals had also fallen through. Then a number of financially good deals remained. But this was the only good step from a sporting perspective.”
Van Brederode did not know much about Mechelen when they reported. “I immediately approached Wikipedia, Transfermarkt and Tommy St. Jago about a switch. And I actually only heard good words. It was good from a sporting point of view, instead of just going for financial reasons.”
He was a starter for a long time at AZ, Van Brederode’s former club. Until Maarten Martens joined the club. “It didn’t really work out between me and the trainer. I haven’t always been easy myself, but I think he hasn’t always dealt with it well either,” said the attacker about his collaboration with Martens.
