José Luis Munuera Monteroreferee of the final of the Spanish Super Cup who won FC Barcelona al Real Madrid despite finishing the match numerically inferior due to the direct expulsion of the Barça midfielder Frenkie de Jong as a result of a lack of Kylian Mbappéexplained his decision in the drafting of the arbitration report. The infraction occurred in the 90th minute of the match when the Madrid player had just recovered the ball against the culé Lamine Yamal and De Jong committed a foul when trying to intercept the ball with bad luck that hit the Real Madrid forward’s knee. The referee did not hesitate and sent him off immediately, directly showing the red card, without the VAR intervening to correct that decision. Munuera explained his ruling in the referee’s report: “He was sent off for the following reason: for making a tackle against an opponent with the use of excessive force in the dispute for the ball.”
Since the ball is in the way, the expulsion will mean the Dutch midfielder of Barça will be suspended from a penalty match by the RFEF Non-Professional Competitions Judge, based on article 121 of the Disciplinary Code regarding direct expulsion, which says the following: “Direct expulsion during the course of a match will result in the imposition of the sanction of suspension for at least one match, unless the fact constitutes of the most serious infraction, with the corresponding pecuniary accessory.” Even in the case of considering it as violence in the game, since the ball is involved, the minimum set out in article 30 of the same Code is applied, which details the following: “Occuring in a violent manner on the occasion of the game or as a direct consequence of any incident in the game, provided that the action causes risk, but no harmful or harmful consequences occur, it will be punished with a suspension of one to three games or for a period of up to one month.”

As we already explained in MD, the fulfillment of this sanction will be carried out in the next FC Barcelona match, as stated in article 56 of the Disciplinary Code regarding compliance with the sanctions: “The suspension for matches that is a consequence of the Spanish Super Cup, regardless of its severity, will imply the prohibition of lining up, acting, accessing the field of play, the bench and the locker room area, in as many of those as the sanction covers in the order in which they take place, although due to alteration of calendar, postponement, repetition or any other circumstance, would have changed the one pre-established at the beginning of the competition.”
