David Guionspoke about AS Saint-Etienne. The ex-Bordeaux player is not surprised that the Greens do not outperform Ligue 2, and for good reason, he experienced exactly the same situation with the Scapular Club.
“There is one thing that we forget, I also experienced this with Bordeaux: Saint-Etienne does not compete in the same championship as the others. As soon as Sainté travels, it is a sellout. This is not a criticism, but when Troyes, Reims or even Dunkirk travel, there are perhaps 500 more spectators to ruin everything. Having experienced it when the Girondins were eagerly awaited by their opponents, everyone wants to beat Saint-Etienne. We don’t just want to beat the players. I know it well, adversity is much more difficult when we are in Saint-Etienne or Bordeaux. Saint-Etienne has the 10% more value, that’s obvious, but you have to put them on the pitch with a lot of personality because there are players in front, there’s the public, there’s the whole club in front who wants to take on this challenge, you need players with strong personality and a lot of character.”
