Colombia’s motorcycle star David Alonso experienced a good but also bitterly tough debut season in the Moto2 World Championship in 2025. David Alonso was unable to continue his incredible march to the Moto3 title the year before last season.
Especially in the first third of the past campaign, the champion, who is under contract with Jorge Martinez, felt the full brutality of the middle World Cup category. It was only at the British GP in Silverstone that Alonso spoke out loudly for the first time with third place.
In Hungary the knot finally broke. Alonso showed an explosive ride and took his first Moto2 victory on the new Balaton circuit. With three more podium finishes in the last four events, the 19-year-old moved up to 9th place in the table. That didn’t change the fact that the super talent had to admit defeat to his teammate Dani Holgado (World Championship rank 6), who also started as a rookie.
After the intensive 22 hours of training in Moto2, Alonso went back home. The youngster is considered a family man.
While the MotoGP teams are making their presentations in Europe, South America’s second great hope alongside Diogo Moreira was drawn back to cold London. David Alonso couldn’t resist the invitation of his personal sponsor Tissot. The watch manufacturer presented a limited timepiece in London on the occasion of the NBA game between Orlando and Memphis.
With the NBA edition on his wrist, the Moto2 racer and 20,000 fans not only followed the triumph of the American basketball greats from Orlando, Alonso also used the trip as an extensive sightseeing trip through the metropolis.
Alonso no longer has much time for distraction. The official Moto2 events begin on February 14th in Portimão. Before that, it’s important to get up to speed with some private tests on Jorge Martinez’s piste near Valencia. The mission is clear: after a year of start-up – as in Moto3 – the next world title should be won in 2026.
