NEC is about to strengthen itself with Danilo, sources report to VoetbalPrimeur. The striker comes on loan from Rangers FC, despite the fact that the Scottish club was aiming for a permanent transfer this winter. Cypriot Pafos FC was prepared to take over the Brazilian, but the player himself consciously opted for a temporary return to the Eredivisie.
NEC’s interest in Danilo is anything but coincidental. After the departure of Kento Shiogai, the club actively looked for a new attacker. Several names came into view, including Danilo’s. For a long time a deal seemed difficult to achieve, but the people of Nijmegen eventually found an opening. Rangers are now close to an agreement on a rental structure.
Although Pafos FC, which won 4-1 against Slavia Prague on Wednesday evening and therefore finished in 26th place in the Champions League, also registered and was seen as a more attractive option by Rangers due to a possible sale, Danilo himself clearly preferred a return to the Netherlands. That wish was the deciding factor in the negotiations.
The Brazilian is no stranger to the Eredivisie. In the past he wore the shirt of Ajax, FC Twente and Feyenoord. In total, he played 81 games in the Dutch league, scoring 29 times and providing 9 assists.
In the summer of 2023, Danilo left for Rangers FC, where he will stay until mid-2028. In Scotland, he was unable to secure a permanent starting position this season and his playing time was limited to mainly substitute appearances. A temporary transfer is seen as a logical solution by all parties involved.
